South African TikTok sensation ‘Dr’ Matthew Lani has been cleared of charges related to impersonating a medical professional, as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) recently stated that there was insufficient evidence to support their case against him.

The charges against Lani revolved around allegations of impersonating a medical practitioner. However, his legal counsel swiftly addressed these accusations, confirming that Mr. Lani is not a qualified doctor by profession.

The lawyer representing the popular social media personality came to Lani’s defense, asserting that there was no evidence of him ever impersonating anyone, let alone a medical professional. According to the lawyer, all of Lani’s content on TikTok was created purely for entertainment purposes.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, previously informed the media that Lani was apprehended by security personnel at the Helen Joseph Hospital on a Sunday evening.

Colonel Nevhuhulwi stated, “The police can confirm that the social media personality who goes by the name Dr. Matthew Lani was apprehended on Sunday evening by security personnel at the Helen Joseph Hospital while attempting to enter the institution.”

According to the Gauteng Department of Health, the incident took place just before 8 pm, when Lani was found wearing a hoodie, a surgical mask covering his face, and a stethoscope around his neck.
